Brain Box
Will o' the wisp (or Magic Flames) refers to the flame often seen moving by itself over marshy areas. This happens as the rotten plants in marshy areas produce a gas called methane, while the remains of rotting animals produce a gas called phosphine. When phosphine meets air, it causes a spark, and this spark ignites the methane, creating a naturally occurring flame.
